26 January 2023 5.30pm – 8pm Community Shell Centre

Overview

Join the IWFM London Region for their latest event where Anna King, Founder and Director of Informare PR, hosting experts within the built environment will chair a discussion with an expert panel on the topic of embodied carbon, exploring the different innovations that can make up the carbon conundrum.

The built-environment sector is more challenged than most when it comes to reducing its carbon footprint, from the construction of a building to its energy consumption on an operational level. We are now tackling the highly complex issue of embodied carbon, which encompasses all GHG emissions associated with building construction, arising from extracting, transporting, manufacturing, and installing building materials on site, as well as the operational and end-of-life emissions associated with those materials.

This ‘supply-chain’ carbon accounts for the vast majority of a building’s total embodied carbon, yet it is far more difficult to track and measure than operational carbon use. In this discussion, the panel will discuss the true concept of re-use, as a way to capitalise on embedded carbon from the lighting to the physical building structure.

Mark  was integral to the Shell team responsible for the full LED refurbishment of 5288 luminaires at the headquarter building in Waterloo, ten years after the initial installation, the upgrading programme delivered a significant reduction in energy and carbon, whilst causing minimum disruption to the employees.

David Clements

Chief Executive , FUTURE Designs

Lighting manufacturers, FUTURE Designs, has been led by David Clements for over 30 years continually innovating to ensure the company is at the forefront of commercial lighting.

From working with fluorescent lighting, to energy reducing LED solutions that are human-centric and therefore enhance the wellbeing of occupiers.

Over the last 10 years, FUTURE Designs has pioneered the concept of reusing existing luminaire carcasses and is largely accepted as the leading expert in adapting existing

fluorescent fixtures to accept LED technology or updating existing LEDs to newer more efficient versions. This offers staggering energy reductions in terms of cost-in-use but vitally it capitalises on the embedded carbon that exists within the carcass, saving further energy and due the reduction in manufacturing processes.
