Recently, we’ve engaged with Equans UK & Ireland on a range of initiatives to supercharge sustainability in workplace and facilities management (WFM), including a webinar and our forthcoming Sustainability Survey Report.

The 2023 IWFM Sustainability Survey highlighted the business case and ROI as a major barrier to implementing sustainability measures and involvement in decisions to achieve net zero. To complement 2023’s Report, we have developed a new guidance note in partnership with Equans which equips professionals of all levels with the tools on how to align sustainability initiatives with organisational priorities, finance language, and guidance on the data required.

The guidance note enables professionals translate data insights into impactful proposals that resonate with senior leadership and secure essential financial support for sustainability projects. With the actionable information to meaningfully drive organisational change, professionals can better communicate with senior leaders or clients as well as their partners or stakeholders and enable more junior professionals to engage within their department.

Following the guidance note’s launch, there will be further engagement with the community in a webinar panel discussion to ensure that professionals better grasp this vital topic and gain the insight to leverage and ensure impactful outputs in organisations.

Sofie Hooper, Head of Policy and Research at IWFM, said, ‘As news builds on our changing climate and WFM’s role as an emissions producer, it’s vital that we provide our community with the accessible, actionable research that will help drive meaningful change in sustainability. With up-to-date insight on the business case, liaising with stakeholders and devising and executing plans, professionals at every level can engage with this new guidance note.

‘Having seen a great response to our ongoing collaboration with Equans, we’re delighted to once again partner to reach even more of the community. With additional resources like the 2024 Sustainability Survey Report and webinars, we aim to provide a comprehensive picture of the opportunities and challenges in sustainability that lie ahead.’

Amelle Mestari, Procurement & CSR Director at Equans UK & Ireland, said: ‘At Equans, we are proud to continue our collaboration with IWFM to drive meaningful change towards sustainability within the workplace and facilities management industry. Together, we are committed to helping professionals at all levels take practical steps towards sustainability and turn strategy into tangible results.

‘The 2024 Sustainability Survey Report is a crucial resource in this effort, providing valuable insights and guidance. Alongside this report, our partnerships, Guidance Note, and ongoing webinars aim to equip the WFM community with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead the transition to a low-carbon future. It’s essential that we work together to seize today's opportunities and tackle the challenges ahead.’
