In FM, as in other professions, there are certain terms that are not commonly used elsewhere, but are understood in the same way by a majority of people in that profession. For instance, if we say ‘hard FM’ or ‘soft FM’, most readers will know what we’re talking about. Such shared language and common understanding is one of the defining characteristics of a profession.
