When IWFM made a strategic decision to embrace change and move to a new workspace, it was important to us that we also helped to make a difference, which is why we worked with ethical clearance provider Waste to Wonder to reuse items we no longer needed.

Waste to Wonder redistributes equipment to support the education of over one million children in 30 countries, including thousands within the UK. In total, we donated office equipment with a fair market value of £3,950, saving 3,877kg in carbon from reuse in the process.

The equipment has travelled to Buea in Cameroon to support the Mokwe Development Association, a non-profit organisation which helps disadvantaged young people by providing health, social and educational support.

We also donated furniture directly to those educating and supporting young people in local communities, gifting items to Harlow Sea Cadets in Essex, Leventhorpe School in Sawbridgeworth, Little Hallingbury Primary School in Essex, and Richard Whittington Primary School in Bishops Stortford (pictured).

Lastly, miscellaneous office items were offered to the IWFM team in return for a donation, raising £830 for mental health charity MIND, the chosen charity of IWFM Chair Mark Whittaker.

IWFM CEO Linda Hausmanis commented: ‘Adapting to the post-pandemic environment by changing how we work demanded in-depth consultations and investigations. But once we made the decision, doing the right thing for communities and the environment required no thought at all. We are proud to support those who affect real change to the lives of many in the UK and beyond, just as we do every day in supporting our members in the workplace and facilities management profession.’
