We’re delighted to launch the IWFM 2024 Sustainability Survey and call on workplace and facilities managers (WFMs) in the UK and Ireland to help us understand what practitioners are doing to support their organisations on decarbonisation.

This year’s survey design builds on evidence from IWFM’s 2023 sustainability research findings and our 2024 Market Oulook report which found that carbon reduction solutions are the fastest growth investment category in the sector.

The initiative is part of IWFM’s sustainability partnership with Equans UK & Ireland to drive decarbonisation in buildings and empower the profession with the right tools to drive net zero.  The survey has again benefitted from the expertise of IWFM’s Sustainability SIG, strengthened by Equans team. The work exemplifies the organisations’ shared vision for meaningful impact across the workplace and facilities sector.

We need your input

Sofie Hooper, Head of Policy and Research at IWFM said:

‘The built environment accounts for 40% of annual global carbon emissions. The WFM profession has a pivotal role to play in achieving net zero, bringing together the needs of the landlord, end user and supply chain.

“For the 2024 research we want to home in on topics like net zero planning and Scope 3 emissions to inform actionable strategies for organisations and the sector to drive the change so urgently needed.’

“We will discover the profession's state of play and gain important knowledge about the tools that IWFM must provide practitioners so its members can realise sustainability outcomes and impacts. We need your input.”

Lewis Chenery, Head of Environment & Sustainability at Equans UK & Ireland, said:

‘This initiative is crucial in gathering insights from the workplace and facilities management community to drive decarbonisation efforts across the sector. By understanding the strategies and tools that practitioners are using, we can collectively accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

At Equans, we are committed to empowering professionals with the necessary resources to achieve their sustainability goals, and this survey is a key component of that mission. We encourage everyone in the community to participate and contribute to this important research, helping to shape a sustainable future for all.’

The survey is open until Tuesday 27 August and takes around 15 minutes to complete. It is anonymous and IWFM takes care to only share aggregated data.
