As we reflect on National Mentoring Day (Sunday 27 October), IWFM Mentoring continues to empower professionals at every career stage through guidance, support and exclusive insights. The goal is to help build better careers and to benefit the sector and organisations. Remember, only IWFM members in professional grades and those with a complimentary studying membership can take part in IWFM Mentoring.

Here are some key reasons why becoming a mentee in IWFM Mentoring offers a boost in workplace and facilities management (WFM):

Build sector relationships

Collaboration is key to success in WFM. Through IWFM Mentoring, mentees can establish relationships which become lasting connections that offer ongoing support and open doors to new opportunities. Mentees benefit not only from their mentor's knowledge and experience but also from their broader professional network, which can be invaluable for career growth.

Develop a portfolio of skills

WFM encompasses a variety of disciplines, from project management and people management to sustainability and EDI. Mentees can learn directly from seasoned experts about best practices and industry trends, which enhances prospects in a competitive sector and creates versatility for a range of different job roles.

Increase professional confidence

IWFM Mentoring provides the guidance and encouragement that mentees need to boost confidence and self-belief. Mentors can help mentees set achievable goals, track progress (in tandem with CPD) and recognise success. This support fosters self-efficacy, enabling mentees to address new opportunities and challenges with assurance.

Tailored learning and support

With IWFM Mentoring, each mentee brings unique career aspirations and professional needs to the table. This allows mentors to tailor their advice and guidance to meet the specific requirements of each mentee. Personalised mentoring fosters an environment in which mentees can ask questions, share concerns and discuss aspirations in a safe space.
