As we mark the tenth annual National Mentoring Day on Sunday 27 October, we’d like to thank the many leaders who’ve volunteered to become Mentors through IWFM Mentoring; we continue to invite leaders within the profession to take part and enhance the next generation.
Not only do mentees benefit, but leaders who mentor others tap into the energy and fresh thinking of tomorrow’s trailblazers, ultimately helping the sector’s prospects. Remember, only IWFM members in professional grades and those with a complimentary studying membership can take part in IWFM Mentoring.
Watch our video above to find out more about becoming an IWFM Mentor.
Here are some key reasons why workplace and facilities management (WFM) leaders should consider becoming an IWFM Mentor.
Enhance leadership and management skills
IWFM Mentoring allows leaders to reflect on professional experience and coaching others in an environment away from the workplace. Engaging with mentees fosters skills like active listening, empathy and constructive feedback. Mentors get the opportunity to guide others and share aspects of what effective leadership requires.
Build a bigger network
As IWFM Mentors engage with mentees, it’s an opportunity to tap into new networks and connections. Every interaction offers the potential to build relationships not only with the mentee but also with other professionals that the mentee may connect with. This expansion of professional networks creates avenues for collaboration and innovative thinking.
Stay updated with sector developments
Strategic leaders are often required to stay aware of the latest trends and innovations – what better way to achieve this than with insight from professionals at a range of different career stages? Through this, there’s an opportunity to explore emerging technologies, methodologies and best practices, enabling knowledge to remain current.
Leave a lasting impact
Mentoring is not just about transferring knowledge, but about giving back to the profession and making a change. By investing time and energy out of choice, IWFM mentors play a critical role in shaping the future of the sector. Their guidance can set a solid foundation for emerging leaders, fostering a sense of responsibility and professionalism that will be carried forward.
