‘Choice is really important to people, and the genie is now out of the bottle on that one. People are really voting with their feet if they’re not getting that choice. What they really like is unfettered flexibility.’
Zoe Humphries, IFM Workplace Experience Director, Cushman and Wakefield
As the discovery process for developing new ways of working continues with ‘most companies’ uncertain about what the post-pandemic workplace will look like, new research by IWFM in partnership with MillerKnoll offers expert insights and tips on creating a forward-looking workplace that meets individual and organisational needs.
Recently, IWFM and Millerknoll invited workplace and facilities management experts from Credit-Suisse, Cushman and Wakefield, Ford, Gensier, Nationwide, and Red Hat to discuss the future of the office and what goes into designing it.
The resulting discussion highlighted the many possibilities for personal and corporate growth and development offered by new, more flexible working arrangements, such as hybrid working.
Released today and available free for IWFM members, ‘The future of office design’ roundtable report dives into this critical topic’s main considerations, such as office design, technology, workplace policies, inclusivity and wellbeing, and the legal landscape.
The key takeaways offer important insights into how businesses are developing and experimenting with new ways of working, while a guidance checklist outlines the points to consider when redesigning your workplace and rethinking your working practices.

The future of office design
The IWFM’s recent roundtable discussion in partnership with MillerKnoll, on the future...
Joseph White, Director of Design Strategy - Global Research & Insights at MillerKnoll, said of the report: ‘Far from a trend, the hybrid work phenomenon is upending long-held expectations relative to work and workplace. Thus, prior benchmarks have suddenly lost relevance and professionals focused on workplace design and management are presented with a shared challenge. As organisations around the globe experiment with new solutions, collaboration and communication across company lines becomes critical in establishing new best practices. This report is part of that important and ongoing dialogue in shaping the future of work and workplace design.’
As IWFM’s Head of Research and Insight comments within, ‘the conversation continues’, but this report takes that conversation several steps forwards.
